Beautiful Big Bow (no-sew!)

What girl couldn’t use a new big bow for her hair!? A special occasion, holiday, party, school, or just for fun!  And all of my non-sewers out there – this big bow DIY tutorial is just for you.  I’m showing how to create this big bow without any thread or needle required.  (Of course you could sew this if you prefer!)  The only question that remains is, “How many bows should one girl have?”

Let’s get started on this quick, 10 minute project!

To get started you will need:

First you will want to cut your strip of fabric.  My piece was 3 inches wide and 23 inches long.  The length of the fabric will determine the size of the bow.  My second bow was 28 inches long.

Lay the fabric print side down and apply a piece of the fabric tape down the center of the fabric.

Fold in both sides to meet on the center of the tape.

Next, fold your fabric into a bow.  Adjust to desired size.  Trim edges to match each other if needed.

To adorn the center of your bow you could use a yarn pom, or a large button. For this pom I simply wrapped the yarn around two fingers repeatedly (about 70 times), slid off the yarn and created my pom.  (Check out the full tutorial to help you create your own pom out of yarn.)

Glue your pom or large button into place on the center of the bow.  Then flip the bow over and glue the barrette to the back side of your bow.

Allow the glue to completely dry and your beautiful bow is ready!  My girls love the extra-large size of these bows, they add a little extra drama.  I’m pretty sure there will be more and more of these showing up in my girl’s hair in the future.  I’m thinking fun vintage buttons or fabric appliqués will look beautiful on the center of these big bows.

What would you put in the center of one of these bows?  I can’t wait to see your beautiful bows!  Tag me in your social media pictures so I can see the final product!

Happy creating friends,

  1. I love this! I don’t sew at all and I can do this!

  2. Cute bows, and they look really simple to make. There’s so many different ways to dress them up. The one with the big button is my favorite.

  3. So cute! I have boys, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t wish I had a girl right around now!

  4. These are so cute. After 3 boys I finally have my girl, hopefully she will have enough hair soon so I can make these for her. Thanks for sharing with us at Throwback Thursday.

  5. Really nice tutorial. Pinned. Shared on Facebook. Hppy New Year. Linda @Crafts a la mode
